A fault code tells you which reading the car is unhappy with. It does not tell you which part has failed. Search a code below to see what it usually points at and the simple checks normally made first.

Got a code and still unsure?
Enter your vehicle and the code together with what the car is actually doing. The same code can point at different causes on different vehicles.
These explanations describe what a code generally reports. They are not a confirmed diagnosis of your vehicle. Do not buy or replace parts until the fault is confirmed, and never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack.
